Education at TBR

Young Actors Program

Education was an important part of the Theatre Baton Rouge experience. Our programming went beyond performing to offering classes for all ages.

Underwritten by John Turner and Jerry Fischer

Theater is a medium for stretching and exercising our powers of imagination. Whether engaging in rigorous training or complementing classroom learning, the unique ability of theater to inspire and transform individuals — of all ages — is indisputable.

Education is an important part of the Theatre Baton Rouge experience. Our programming goes far beyond performing.  We offer fall, winter and spring classes for students of all ages from five years old to senior citizens. Classes focus on acting and performing, voice instruction, auditioning and improvisation. Our focus is not concentrated on just onstage training but behind the scenes as well. With classes devoted to scenery design and playwriting, students will learn what goes on behind the scenes and the technical aspects of theater.

All of our classes are designed to inspire creativity and build confidence. Our instructors are professionals in their fields and are carefully chosen to provide students with the best instruction.

We offer a series of Summer Camps featuring musical and play production for young children, teens and adults. The focus of our camps is to build and produce a finished performance in a fun environment. Each camp begins with an audition and ends with a full performance for family and friends. In each camp, participants learn all aspects of putting on a production from building sets to designing costumes and utilizing props.

Our Young Actors Program was developed to teach, create and nurture the artistic development of young actors ages seven to 18 through performance opportunities of the highest quality. This program is designed to enhance life-long skills and a love of theatre for the audiences of tomorrow.
